Nels,
How are you getting on with the list of Powerpack covers? I've got a couple to mention - one I'm sure of and one I might have imagined! The first one is Lesley Duncan's 'Love Song'. Its a great track and they did a great up tempo version. I've never heard Lesley Duncan's original but Elton John did a version on Tumbleweed Connection - I prefer Powerpack's.
On the second one I might be wrong, but I'm sure when I saw Powerpack at the Ruskin, Terry was not only playing guitar but he also had a Mellotron!. Have I dreamt this or mixed it up with another band ? I have a picture in my mind of him standing square on to the crowd with a guitar round his neck, playing the mellotron - and I'm sure they did the Court of the Crimson KIng. Does anyone else remember this - or did I have too many Light and Bitters???

No, you did not imagine this Peter. They definately did the Court of the Crimson King, also Stone Free (Hendrix) See my way (Blodwyn Pig) Sunshine of my life (Stevie Wonder) Black Night (Purple). I think they also did a couple of Black Sabbath numbers also. Boy were they ever a good band, we were so spoilt in ithose days...........
I remember that they used to do a self created instrumental number called 'Dave's Dentures'. I think the organist worked in the dental industry!!!

Terry did play at the Green Man in the band that evolved from Guy Darrel's outfit (of 'I've Been Hurt' fame). He replaced the existing guitarist when he left. The change meant that the existing singer/frontman was somewhat redundant because, as we all know, Terry was a very accomplished lead vocalist in his own right

Blimey, some memories in here! I also used to be a regular at the Ruskin and the Green Man. They did four straight nights at the Ruskin - Thurs to Sun, those were the days. Dave the Hammond player (you don't see many Leslie cabinets live anymore!) ended up leaving and was replaced by another keys player, whose name escapes me for the moment. My girlfriend at the time had some great photos from a New Year's eve there one year - must be '75 or '76.
Actually, the band at the Green Man - Deep Feeling - featured both Terry (can't quite remember his surname), the drummer from Power Pack - and Walt Monaghan on bass, from Freedom.
Power Pack were the band that got me into Snafu, who I saw live and very good they were too. Another Bridge House link? Bobby Harrison was the lead singer of Snafu, who was also the drummer in Freedom and was also with Procol Harum up to the recording of Whiter Shade of Pale! Small world innit?
I'd also like to find out where Terry plays these days - he was indeed a very fine guitarist with a great voice.
Christ, this all takes me back.........!

Here's some more........
One is the loneliest number....Nielsen Hideaway......John Mayall (Freddie King) Vehicle......Ides of March.
They also used to play a cheeky little version of "Fernando's Hideaway" at the end of the first set.
I'll put my mind to some more. Terry Newman was, and still is, in my humble opinion, one of the best guitarist/singers that I have EVER had the pleasure to listen to....bar none....and he always took the time to show a beginner guitarist (which I was at the time), exactly how to do things....thanks for the memories guys!

I am in Romford. There are quite a few on here who have fond memories of Terrys musical talents and if he is still perfoming in some way ,I for one would like to see him.

HI Terry N Here, I was fascinated, no flattered , that the band gave such a buzz to so many people who were listening intently to what we were doing at the time. I was obviously into what we were doing, but its nice to know that all that hard work wasn't in vain ! And it was hard work, believe you me, but very enjoyable! You guys remember more about the numbers than i , - great stuff ! And to answer the question: yes, i still knock out the odd tune or two / three? Rock till Death......................Terry......Powerpak.
