When I first started going to the Bridgehouse I was a skinny 18 year old with a leather jacket covered in studs that probably weighed more than me and an old BSA that I probably spent more time pushing than riding. I've just turned 50 now and still ride if the weathers nice but not wearing that studded jacket any more!
I think it was the summer of 76 when there used to be loads of bikes outside the pub on a Friday night and just recently a couple of the blokes that I was good mates with back then got in touch with me and we had a little reunion.
I was just wondering if any of the other people from those days are on here?

well Dave,Rappo can not seem to make up his mind,i can inform you, until 1978 he was a regular almost every night, being our resident photo, taker, and as  alledged Mod in the sixties did he blossom into a biker I think not.So now we can await his yea or nay.on this matter.
Yes i remember the friday night bikers,Bikes all round the pub, which was putting ordanery folk from coming in the pub,so i open up the large garden as a bike park,
but not many would park there,it seemed they like to sit on there bikes drinking there pint, and i guess keeping there eyes on there bikes.I must also say they were a very well behaved crowd of guys, they drifted away to places anew, and the next year we had the mods with there mopeds, they would not go in the garden either,I guess like having a new car, its like a trophy, that you are proud of.
Come on Rappo, was you or not a biker?

Well, Let's put it this way. I used to frequent The WAKE ARMS on Sunday nights in the late 60's and early 70's................... Before my days at the Bridge.

During the early 60's I was a fully fledged mod, you know, all spruce and dandy. We were also scared sh*tless of the rockers. One night, way, way back, riding my Vespa back through Epping Forest I got a flat tire, and, of course, had no spare.

I'll cut a long story short here or else I'll go on forever. Anyway, along come a pack of bikers who roar past on thier fancy machines all pointing and laughing at my predicament. Then in the distance as the roar of the bikes fades we hear a few bikes coming back. We all thought, sh*t, this is it, why didn't I have a hammer or some other weapon hidden in my parka.

The bikes pull up next to us and they say....... "Do you boys need any help" ......

Anyway, one thing led to another and I ended up meeting that pack of bikers in the WAKE ARMS nearly every Sunday night. That changed my life to date and music preferences completely.

I posted something similar to this a while back in the Mods section on this board, go read it.

But, Dave may be too young to remember that period.......................

I used to go to the Wake Arms too but that wasn't until the late 70's/early 80's so a bit later than you Rappo.

Terry I never realised that it put people off coming in the pub! I suppose looking back on it we did look a touch dodgy with the leathers and boots etc but the truth of it was we were generally too busy discussing each others bikes to cause any trouble.

Dave you are right, they were never no trouble, but you can imaging ,coming out with your girl friend for a drink,it all the bikes  would frighten some people ,
Peter they were Hells Angels on the Tuesday night,as you said they were no trouble also, the pub was great there was never any trouble,we would at times have mixed audiences, Hell angels, bikers, skinheads mods, and not only that, but West ham football supporters,as well.,they were great days.
