I have an ad from the Melody Maker for the Bridge House ,Thursday the 16-10-1980 Depeche Mode headlined supported by Zeitgeist.

Yet in their 'Speak and Spell' tour sheet it is down as 'Composition of Sound', their first name.

They also played the Bridge, the month previous. as Depeche mode.
So the bands first gig with their new name was at the Bridge House.
Another first for the Bridge.

Terry,
I remember Depeche's gig - I played drums in the support band! Our singer at the time was Ronnie Briton, Rocco's best mate and Rocco got us the gig. We played several times at the Bridge House and I went to every W.Y. gig that I could!
One of my happiest memories is Jamming with Rocco, Nic and Steve Dior (ex New York Dolls) at a studio in Clapton.

I remember Rocco and Ronnies first band together, called 'Smak'.

They played a couple of times at the Bridge and the Greengate.
Supported The Tickets and maybe early Youth.

I also remember Zeit Geist, I did a photo shoot with them at the British Museum.
Kind of B-52ish.

Found this photo of Zeit Geist & friend, Itchypoo park Aldgate.

Jeff,
I remember Ronnie in that band! I played drums with Ronnie & 2 of his buddies - Martin (who lived in Jupp Rd West?) and a great guitarist called Kevin. Cant remember the last names tho!

Mate,
I'd like to think we met - I joined Ronnies Band in late 1979 /  1980 and remember meeting Martin & Kevin at Ronnies House (Vicarage Lane). Drummed for them for almost 2 years. I remember some of Ronnies friends - Anne, Sandy & Sue.
I'm sure that the guitarists were indeed Kev Cooper and Martin Selwyn. They were both very talented.
The drummer before me was apparently Raz (who lived in Leytonstone) and sadly passed away thru living the rock & roll lifestyle about 2 years later. Our Bass player was a chap called Adam.
I understood that Kevin & Martin later formed 'Persian Flowers' and that Nic was supposed to join them.

regards

Dell

Actually there is an official recording of Depeche Mode playing at the Bridge House in 1980.

I've already downloaded but didn't listen yet...  Sad

You are right, Terry. Seemed to me it was official just because it was easy to find on eMule.

After a little research, I found an interesting site about their unnoficial recordings (long list) for those interested in it:

Terry,
I remember hearing this record, it was a Patti Smith cover. I dont know the title, but I can still sing the chorus!
'oh God I cried for you, Oh God I died for you'
It was a pretty good cover as well, but i forget the singer's name.
Yet another band with so much potential, yet delivered so little.
